British High Commission Awards Grant to Biodiversity Project October 22nd, 2008 The British High Commission, Bridgetown Barbados is pleased to announce their support of the Nevis Biodiversity Project with a grant of $6,000EC. The grant is to be used to support the development of the new Biodiversity Research Centre currently under construction at the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society's Bell Vue Museum facility. Specifically, the funds will be used to provide technical training for selected local students in the field of GPS/GIS (Geographical Information Systems) mapping and survey work. This is a new technology that is very much in demand within the Eastern Caribbean region, especially within the fields of environmental science and resource management. This grant for student training combined with a recent grant for GPS/GIS equipment from The Canadian High Commission, will allow the Nevis Biodiversity Project to become a model for other small island's environmental projects. Purchasing of the equipment is currently underway and technical training is being arranged, with the project scheduled to move into high gear over the next two to three months.
